I've gotta tell you, today's Sheldon (www.sheldoncomics.com) was just about the cutest thing I have ever seen. I've read it about four times now. It makes me even sadder that I missed out on meeting the guy at Emerald City Comicon.
Stupid school gets in the way of all my fun.
What piece of advice do you wish you could take?
Ok, I don't even understand what this question is asking here. What the hell does it mean? Why do I find it so funny?
I am writing this entry mostly as a really great way of procrastinating. Another quarter down, one more for the year. How does that happen? I have to start thinking about my master's project, and I barely feel as though my education has even begun!
In other news, I have finally finished my long journey through Twin Peaks (though not Fire Walk With Me, yet) (yes I am writing this for you, Kristi). I couldn't go to sleep last night because of it. Well, that and the two large glasses of iced tea I had. That was one.... fucked up show. I can't even tell if I liked it at the end. It wasn't very well written, most of the actors were fairly terrible, and yet, and yet. The clothes were great to make fun of, the music was perhaps the best I've ever heard from a TV show, and there were some truly spectacular moments. The storyline, well, that's a discussion for another day. Hell, that would make a much better QotD. Picture it: what the hell was Twin Peaks even about?
Wow, I can't believe it's been six months (give or take) since I've posted here. I wish I could say that it's because I've been ludicrously busy, but the sad truth is that I've just been lazy. And boring. What fun is it to post a boring post?
Although, now that I'm writing this, I'm sort of realizing that I don't have much more of interest to say now than I did six months ago. Hey, at least it's a start! My hope is that from now on I'll be a little more active in the blogging area, but please don't hold your breath.
So tonight I watched "Bridge to Terabithia", the movie of the Katherine Paterson book that I loved as a kid (checked out from the library, of course). This movie is a bit of a paradox, because it's targeted at kids, with its cutesy child actors and fantasy special effects, and yet there are so many adult themes to it that don't come across as well in the movie as they did in the book. That is to say, I remember reading the book and dealing with the tragedy, but I don't know if kids watching the movie would handle it as well. It's just so weird that they try to add all this whimsy to a fairly serious story (if you've read the book, hopefully you'll understand what I mean). Anyway, I guess I'm glad the movie was made, if only so that kids will be motivated to read the book, but I wish they'd have laid off all the fantasy mumbo jumbo and attempted to make a more thoughtful, less superficial movie.
Sorry to gush all over you guys, but seriously? this is too cute not to share. I'm not saying I want my own dog, but damn I love looking at these cute pictures. I promise, this is the last I will link to cute puppy pictures. I got a rep to maintain and all.
On a sadder note, I just finished watching the untimely series finale of what is now one of my all time favorite tv shows, Veronica Mars. Most people did not know about this show (hence the cancellation), but it was good. It was an interesting experience being in love with a tv show...I followed it from the first season, which was amazingly fantastic, to a still-highly-enjoyable second season, to a third season that dissapointed, mostly because it tried so hard to gain typical CW viewers. Basically, it turned into a teeny-bopper soap opera, with occasional glimpses of genious. So...what did I gain from my first time being a devoted fan? (I don't count Star Trek:TNG since I was too young, and yes I am that nerdy) Well, I think in the long run a realization that I should spend more time watching GOOD tv, meaning less total tv time, and that the line between devotion and lunacy is very thin. And one in which I never, ever crossed, thank you very much.
How well does your name Google? Who are you up against? (Celebrities, etc.)
Submitted by Matt Blank.
How well, you ask? surprisingly well, in fact. Googling my first name alone brings up some surprising answers, such as www.ayelet.com, which is a travel agency, of all things. And then, of course, there's my "celebrity" namesake, Ms. Ayelet Waldman, author extraordinaire, who also happens to be the wife of Michael Chabon, who wrote one of my favorite books (Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay). There's an actress named Ayelet, who I believe played Eric Bana's wife in Munich. And...that's about it.
I think my favorite site is "Ayelet like it is", a blog of someone who apparently had her name made fun of just as many times as I have. After reading some of it though, I thought she sounded kind of self-obsessed, and a wee bit corny. Not like that doesn't describe everyone with a blog....
I just thought I'd share a little update on my so far pretty exciting spring break. Back when I was planning this trip, I thought to myself, hey, the East Coast should be lovely in spring! And I have so many people to visit! It'll be great!
Hi all,
one of Jack's favorite radio stations, and mine if I had fast enough internet, is Radio Paradise. It is run by two people out of I don't even know where, but the DJ loves to play all sorts of music, from classic and modern rock to Blues, country, jazz, and basically whatever else he feels like. After listening for a while, you hear new songs to love, old favorites, and end up feeling really good about yourself.
So why am I even talking about this station? Well, first, because I encourage you to try something new. And second, because it may not last much longer. Apparently the US Copyright Office has decided to charge an arm and a leg to independent internet radio stations, which may very well but this little operation out of business. So, listen while you have the chance!
What was your favorite game to play at recess in grade school?
Submitted by Elisheva Chana.
ahh....memories...I didn't necessarily have a game I liked to play, but climbing on things was always fun. Monkey bars, rings, jungle gyms...good times. For a while I was a tetherball champ too. No four-square, sad to say. Oh yeah, and tag, of course.
What did you dream about last night?
oh I love talking about my dreams, if some of you hadn't noticed. I don't really remember what I dreamt about last night, but a few nights ago I had a dream involving my being pregnant and in labor, and recieving an epidural, which ended up knocking me out for two days. When I woke up, I had a baby but I had no idea where it came from, or how it was delivered, or anything. Once Jack (the father) noticed I was awake, he handed me our new baby and left for work. So there I am, alone with some baby I didn't remember giving birth to, and getting all stressed out because epidurals shouldn't put you in a coma for two days.
I defy any of you to up my dream on the weirdness factor. Ha!
Awww! I didn't know you liked Sheldon. I LOVE that comic. I tend to get friend-crushes easily, and I totally... read more
